Q: How often is the content in the Skills program updated?
A: Every skill in Mosby's Nursing Skills is updated as needed based on changes in practice.

All skills are reviewed at least every two years, and more frequently if new standards require it. All skills will be thoroughly reviewed in conjunction with the new editions of the source text books. Our version history report allows customers to see when skills were last changed and a summarized reason for the change.

Q: Do you plan to expand the collection?
A. Our plan is to add a new collection of skills from other nursing disciplines every 12-18 months until the collection is complete. Mosby's Nursing Skills will eventually include skills for perioperative nursing, neonatal nursing, mental health nursing etc.

Using Mosby's Nursing Skills

Q: How is Mosby's Nursing Skills accessed?
A: Nurses in hospitals that license Mosby's Nursing Skills can log-on to the site via an Internet connection

Q: How will staff be trained once a hospital has purchased Mosby's Nursing Skills?
A: "Train the trainer" sessions will be held for selected staff via a web conference. In addition a web-based demonstration that works in conjunction with our user guide will present basic instructions on how to use the Skills product. Materials will also be provided to help make your staff aware of the product to encourage usage.

Q: Can we edit the content in Mosby's Nursing Skills?
A: The text components of each skill can be edited. The hospital appoints a system administrator who can modify the content to reflect practice within their hospital. Illustrations, photos, videos and animations can be turned on or off and annotated.

Periodically, Mosby's Nursing Skills releases updates to skills. If your institution has customized a skill and an update is released, you'll be able to manage your own content updates through the Content Notification System.

Q: If we customize one component of a skill such as the Checklist - does the Quicksheet and Test get customized automatically?
A: Changes made to one component, such as a Checklist; do not carry over to other components such as the Quicksheet. It is the customer's responsibility to make all necessary changes throughout the skill.

Q: There is a skill I need that is not in Mosby's Nursing Skills; can I add a new skill?
A: Each customer will have the ability to create 20 skills that will be added to the Skills product.

Q: Can we upload our own photos or videos?
A: Currently we do not allow customers to upload their own media files. We are considering this for future development.

Q: How do I retrieve an old version of a skill?
A: Changes from Elsevier and customizations by the customer are tracked in the version history table. Simply identify the version of the skill in question and contact customer support via an available email link from within the version history page.

Q: Can we set up something where we can 'link' to external site where we our policies are housed?
A: Yes, the text editor contains a tool that will create hyperlinks.

Q: How are we alerted of changes to content?
A: Every Administrator will have access to review changes to their customized content via the "Content Notification System."

Q: Can I review the revisions of skills before I accept/decline them on my system?
A: The Administrator will have the ability to review each skill in a side-by-side comparison prior to accepting or declining the changes on their system.

Technical Specifications

Q: What are the system requirements for the user of Mosby's Nursing Skills? How much integration is necessary with my hospital system?
A: Mosby's Nursing Skills requires a Microsoft Windows and Microsoft explorer Version 5. To view demonstrations Flash 7 is required. It is recommended that you have a broadband internet connection and at least 256k of RAM.

Mosby's Nursing Skills is delivered via the web to a specific IP range that is established when the product is activated for your specific location. Using your web browser, the product is available from any computer used within your network without any integration into your hospital systems. If you can access a web search engine (such as Google or Yahoo) you can access Mosby's Nursing Skills.

Q: Is remote access available?
A: Access to the product requires IP authentication so remote access depends on the user being connected to the hospitals network.

Q: Is Generic Access Available?
A: Mosby's Nursing Skills is available with a generic user "always on" feature. This allows staff to access the product from within the customer's facility without logging in.

Q: Can Mosby's Nursing Skills integrate with my existing Learning Management System?
A: There may be instances where an institution would prefer a level of integration between Mosby's Nursing Skills and an LMS in order to have a single source of data on staff testing and performance. We have two solutions to offer customers. While there are likely a variety of customer-specific needs surrounding Mosby's Nursing Skills and LMS compatibility, these two solutions will overcome most of the hurdles for customers.
